The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS) to accelerate innovation in India’s biotechnology sector and support high-growth startups.
The partnership aims to assist over 500 biotech startups in the next three years by providing strategic guidance, access to technology, mentorship, and connections with investors. Under this collaboration, TFS and DPIIT’s Startup India initiative will launch the BioVerse Challenge and the BioVerse Mentors Circle. These programs are designed to identify and nurture India’s most promising biotech entrepreneurs.
The BioVerse Challenge will select 100 high-potential startups, offering them intensive mentorship, subsidized access to R&D facilities, and opportunities to connect with investors. Meanwhile, the BioVerse Mentors Circle will guide an additional 400 startups, providing training in advanced biotech techniques and entrepreneurial skills. A BioVerse Alumni Network will also be created to offer long-term mentorship, coaching, and funding support for participating startups.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sanjiv, Joint Secretary at DPIIT, said, “This collaboration between Startup India, DPIIT, and Thermo Fisher Scientific is an important step towards strengthening India’s biotechnology ecosystem. By combining Thermo Fisher’s global expertise with Startup India’s innovation network, we aim to create opportunities for early-stage biotech entrepreneurs to scale their solutions and contribute to India’s bioeconomy”.
