Chandigarh Startup Policy, will be Launched Tomorrow

Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, who is also the Secretary of Industries, said the new policy would be revolutionary for entrepreneurs and would lead to appreciable economic growth in Chandigarh. The much-awaited Chandigarh startup policy, after seven years of development, will be launched on Tuesday.

Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria will unveil the policy formally on April 29, and it will remain operative for a period of five years. Some of the key stakeholders are to participate in the launching ceremony.

The policy also started to frame itself in the year 2018, with the introduction by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Startup India Policy, which challenged Union Territories and states to initiate their own policy as per their local entrepreneurs' needs. However, Chandigarh's policy implementation was constantly delayed and had several deadlines as a result of administrative indecisiveness.

The issue was raised in the Lok Sabha in August 2023, where Minister of State for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Som Parkash said that Chandigarh has 335 startups registered under the Startup India Initiative. The Union Territory had initially targeted the launch of the policy by the end of October 2024 but was not able to do so within time.
