BITS Law School and PanScience Launch India's First AI-Powered Legal Innovation Centre
  • BITS Law School and PanScience Innovations launched PALETTE, India’s first AI-powered legal innovation centre, to integrate AI into legal education and practice.
  • PALETTE features advanced AI tools like automated case summarisation and predictive judgment analysis to enhance efficiency in courts and legal firms.
  • The centre aims to be a national hub for legal innovation, focusing on AI ethics, regulation, and collaboration with judiciary and global legal-tech partners.
In a groundbreaking step towards revolutionising India's legal and technological framework, BITS Law School, under the aegis of BITS Pilani, in collaboration with PanScience Innovations, has launched the country’s first AI-powered legal innovation centre PALETTE. The launch event, held at the India International Centre in New Delhi, was graced by eminent legal dignitaries, including the Former Chief Justice of India, Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud, who delivered the Presidential address, and Attorney-General of India, Shri R. Venkataramani, as Guest of Honour.
PALETTE, which stands for Professional Advancement in Law through Executive Training & Technical Education, is a first-of-its-kind initiative that aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies into legal education, practice, and judicial processes. The centre is powered by Nyaay AI, a legal-tech venture of PanScience Innovations, and seeks to build AI-readiness across the Indian legal system.
The event was led by Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Bharadwaj, Founding Dean of BITS Law School, and Dr. Anshul V. Pandey, Founder & Chairman of PanScience Innovations. Addressing the audience, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud highlighted the necessity of adapting to technological changes in the legal domain. “Lawyers today must not only interpret statutes but also understand how AI systems arrive at their recommendations”, he noted.
One of the key highlights of the event was a live demonstration of Nyaay AI's suite of tools. These included advanced capabilities in automated case summarisation, document classification, and predictive judgment analysis all tailored to the Indian judicial ecosystem. These tools are poised to significantly improve efficiency across law firms, courts, policy-making bodies, and in-house legal departments.
Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Bharadwaj stated, “Legacy firms, boutique practices, and corporate legal teams are emerging as early adopters of AI. With High Court judges facing caseloads of 5,000–15,000 and an average case resolution time of five years, this transition to legal-tech is not just timely—it’s essential”.
Dr. Anshul V. Pandey added, “AI is not here to replace human judgment but to augment it. Through the PALETTE Centre, we aim to make justice faster, smarter, and more accessible to all”.
The PALETTE Centre is not just a training facility it envisions itself as a national and global hub for legal innovation and thought leadership. It will host expert-led conferences, collaborative research initiatives, and partnerships with global legal-tech firms and regulatory bodies. Special focus will be placed on AI regulation, ethical usage frameworks, and legal innovation in line with global best practices.
A hallmark of PALETTE is its collaborative ethos. By engaging stakeholders across the judiciary, legal academia, law firms, and corporate legal teams, the centre aims to develop AI integration strategies that are both ethically sound and practically relevant.
With the launch of PALETTE, BITS Law School and PanScience Innovations have taken a decisive step towards reshaping the way justice is taught, delivered, and experienced in India. As AI continues to evolve, the centre is poised to lead the charge in transforming legal education and practice in the country.
