Bengaluru Startup Ather Energy Unveils the Country's First Smart Electric Scooter - S340
Coming to the “smart” side, the S340 has GSM and Bluetooth connectivity and is equipped with a touchscreen dashboard which apart from serving as an instrument cluster also delivers a multitude of functionalities. The destinations likely to visit can be fed into the system, or frequently visited places can be saved, enabling the system to guide the rider through the best possible route. Multiple users can create their own customizable profiles to track their ride pattern in order to optimize the scooter’s performance metrics and get recommendations on software updates. The scooter offers two riding modes- Sport or Economy, with each mode altering the power output to the rear wheel. The scooter can be synced with the owner’s smart phone by an application which allows tracking the vehicle, remotely controlling and monitoring the vehicle and managing the charging process. The vehicle, to enable remote diagnostics will receive and analyze data from sensors from components such as battery, motor, charger and the vehicle control unit to inform the rider when a replacement is due.
The front- rear weight ratio has been optimally balanced in the S340. The low center of gravity and zero lateral offset aid in stability of the scooter, easing the process of mitigating obstacles in city rides. Illuminating the dark, the scooter has smart LED headlamp that controls the light intensity based on ambient light conditions.
The company is also about to revolutionize the way vehicles are purchased in the country; booking can be done form any smart phone and the scooter will be delivered at the buyer’s doorstep with all the documentations taken care of. Over the next two to three years the company intends to expand its coverage to about 20 cities. Citing his views on the ultra competitive automotive market, Tarun Mehta explains that unlike conventional automotive marketplace, more players in the electric vehicle landscape will instead be beneficial; it will result in a symbiotically sustained ecosystem that will not only profit the players, but answer some of the dire needs of the time.
