The Great Indian Entrepreneurial Bazaars

Bangalore: The history of entrepreneurship in India takes us centuries back to the flea markets in the city streets of the Mughal kingdoms and in the reigns of the great Chandra Gupta Maurya. These bazaars have been a great set for the middle and lower middle class community to step into entrepreneurial careers. Even in this bustling ecosystem of malls and multiplexes the tradition of footpath bazaars and cramped road side shops contribute a lot to the Indian economy.

Though one can find the rickety shops all around the country’s streets selling products like safety pins to antiques costing hundreds of dollars, there are some hot spots in the Indian markets which give great opportunity to the middle class entrepreneurs. RetaiDigit has listed some of these famous Indian entrepreneurial bazaars.

Check out Indian bazaars and street markets which make million dollar businesses.

1. Chor Bazaar

Location: Mumbai

From larger than life Indian movie posters to Victorian antiques and luxury furniture, you can find a wide range of brand new and used commodities in these noisy little streets of South Mumbai. Originally called as Shor Bazaar, meaning noisy market, the prolonged use of the British mispronunciation made it Chor Bazaar that actually means Thieves market. Somehow coincidental with this infamous change in addressing, stolen goods started finding the route to this centuries old market.
