Tech-driven news startup, Knocksense acquires 20 per cent stake in The Times of Esports

Lucknow-based tech driven local news startup, Knocksense, acquires a strategic stake in The Times of Esports. Together, they now aim to build India’s premiere e-sports news portal. Knocksense, which had recently raised a bridge round of funding from Mumbai Angels Network aims to use the proceeds to expand its presence in tier-II cities.

The Times of Esports portal, was recently founded in April 2020 by the founder of Joss Events, Sonal Talreja. "The e-sports industry in India will be of Rs 118.8 billion by 2023 and a news portal focused on e-sports is the need of the hour. Our association with Knocksense ensures us quality content and penetration in the tier II cities," says Talreja.

Varul Mayank, Founder or Knocksense, adds, "We see a lot of craze for e-sports and gaming in Tier II cities but currently there are few/no credible carriers of information in India for e-sports. This association with The Times of Esoprts is aimed to make a premier portal for e-sports. Also content aggregators can also take a bundled subscription of content of both Knocksense and The Times of Esports together. Knocksense is also looking to get into more strategic alliances with with other content producers into news and visual storytelling in India."

Earlier, Knocksense had raised funds from Neelansha Dwivedi, Amitesh Pandey and Mumbai Angels Network. The company is expecting to close their Pre-Series A round in August 2020.
