BANGALORE: Basically, home based business or work from home ventures is a form of business where one can enjoy being your own boss and at the same time can give 100 percent in the work while taking all the important decisions relating to your work.

Starting a home based firm is quite easy but it always needs proper planning, monitoring, and hard working for becoming successful in the ventures.

As per the latest Economic Census released by the National Statistical Association, in India, a southern state like Tamil Nadu, with 48.36 percent of the establishments within households, has now topped among states with maximum household-enterprises. The overall average of the country adds upto 38.39 percent.

Raman Mahadevan, Business Economist said "There are many small establishments which work from home or as cottage industries in the state. The jobs for these establishments come from big industrial units which outsource part of their work," reports B Sivakumar for TOI.

In Chennai, Adimoolam, a small-time waste paper trader who employed his own family member exclaimed, "I am not educated but with whatever I know I manage the waste paper business but my wife and others take care of the copier machines and also sell prepaid mobile cards. The shop is owned by my family and therefore we save on rent and labour by employing ourselves."

Including those in households, there are 58.47 million establishments all over the country. Out of which Uttar Pradesh has 67 lakh establishments, followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu with 61.25 lakh and 50.52 lakh establishments respectively.

During the intervening period of 2005 and 2013, the overall growth rate in number of such enterprises is 41.73 percent with 34 percent employment growth rate.

India, today houses about 21.93 lakh handicraft/handloom establishments, accounting 3.75 percent of the total number of enterprises.
