Bangalore: India can be proud of the fact that it is the only country in the world to have another ‘country’ inside it. Yes! We are talking about Kerala, a state in India that is often called ‘The God’s own country’. It is one of the only states in the country to make and break its own record in liquor consumption and a state that can proudly boast about its startup favouring ecosystem. So, when two young entrepreneurs from this state meet, what would they discuss? Well, of course about a startup in the liquor sector and this was exactly how Vgulp was born.

‘The idea is not just to provide deals, but also to manage loyalty at large liquor chains and drink out places like bars, pubs, lounges and night clubs. Moreover it was our own need and hence we built it,’ says Anand Janardhanan, co-founder, Vgulp. After conducting a detailed market study Anand and his partner Ajeesh Udumbath discovered the fact that 1 out of every 5 Indians drink and an average drinker in India spends around 4000 to 12000 rupees every month and this itself was a ‘go-ahead’ signal for these young men to ideate and begin Vgulp – an exclusive startup portal for drinkers.
