Infosys Steps Up to Empower Entrepreneurs and Startups in India

Bangalore: One of the leading information and technology firm of the country, Infosys is all set to mend the frail startup and entrepreneurial community of the country. The company is roping in the country heads of major IT and telecom companies to discuss a road map for promoting start-ups in the country, as reported by Times of India.

The meet will be held at the Bangalore campus of Infosys to sketch the blue print and prospect of the startup village that is to be set up in Kochi. Chief executives and senior members from the Indian branches of major companies like Microsoft, Google, Dell, HP, Vodafone and many more will be gathered to make some incisive decisions on the project. The village is meant to support more than a thousand technology and allied startups for a period of 10 years.

"There are roughly 5,000 incubators in the world, of which 2,000 are in the US and 1,000 in China. The blueprint of the Startup Village will be scaled up across the country later and hence it is important that we get it right from the beginning," said Sanjay Vijayakumar, CEO of MobME . "India has only 65 incubators, but we need at the least 1,000 in the country. The existing incubators are associated with academic institutions and hence don't possess the kind of business acumen their counterparts in the US have," says Sony Joy co-founder of MobME.

“Based at Kinfra High Tech Park, Startup Village will be promoting young entrepreneurs of the 18 - 25 years of age range. The incubation phase and the three-month long accelerator phase will be run on not-for-profit basis. The Startup Village also has the distinction of being the first business incubator in India on the private-public-partnership mode,” reports Times of India.
