Indian Ethnic e-store Grabs $3.5 Million VC Funding

Bangalore: The Chennai based e-commerce apparel store that deals with Indian ethnic wear has raised an investment of $3.5 Million from Inventus Capital and Ojas Ventures. The company intends to invest the funds in acquiring more customers and introducing new product line, like fashion jewellery, ethnic footwear, fusion wear and kidswear.

Cbazaar.com started in 1998 as ChennaiBazaar.com, selling vegetables and grocery in Chennai. After incurring heavy loss the company had to move out and they got into got into gifting for the Indian settlements abroad. It now serves the Indian market and the non-residential Indians globally with its range of ethnic clothing such as saris, salwar suits, lehengas, sherwanis and kurtis, for men women and children.

Cbazaar that employs more than 200 employees was founded by Rajesh Nahar and Ritesh Katariya. “We launched Cbazaar.com in 2005 for the international market and have recently launched Cbazaar.in for the Indian market. Our vision is to be the largest online retailer of men’s, women’s, & kid’s ethnic wear and accessories,” said Rajesh Nahar in his interview to BestMedia Info. Cbazaar is looking forward to improve the standard of technology by implement 3D mirror like interface and Windows8 based mobile application with the help of the multi million funding as reported by Deal Curry.

There have been many million-dollar funding in the Indian online apparel stores of-late including Azim Premji’s $20 Million fund for FabIndia and Tiger Global’s $16 Million funding for ExclusiveIy.in. “The market that Cbazaar addresses is very large, and we’re confident that with this infusion of capital, the entrepreneurs will propel the company to an even higher level of growth,” Samir Kumar, MD of Inventus Advisory Services told BestMedia Info about the future prospects of Cbazaar in the industry.
