Coca-Cola To Open Startup Accelerators In Bangalore


Bangalore: When you open a bottle of fizzy coke, you sometimes hear those catchy slogans ringing somewhere behind your head along with those tiny gas bubbles breaking free and evaporating in the air. These bubbles in a way symbolize the energy and thrust an entrepreneur possess and his ultimate craving to innovate and revolute from clichés. Coca-Cola, one of the leading soft drink makers in the world is all set to enter the startup eco-system and the place they chose to be is of course, Bangalore. The beverage giant seems to be literally implementing its catchy slogan ‘Open Happiness’ but this time favouring entrepreneurs and startups.

In a recent presentation given by David Butler, Vice President, Coca-Cola at Sydney it was revealed that the beverage giant is hoping to set up accelerator programmes in nine cities and the other shortlisted cities apart from Bangalore are Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Singapore and Istanbul.

“About a year and a half ago, the company stepped back and said – what are we not doing in terms of innovation?” Butler explained. “You can get lost in that word but essentially what we came down to is that there was a lot going on in this ecosystem, this community, that we weren’t part of…”
