Azim Premji invests $15 Million in Khosla Ventures

Bangalore: Azim Premji, Wipro Chairman, has invested about $15 million in Vinod Khosla's Khosla Ventures, which is based in Menlo Park, California. It is the first ever investment overseas made my Azim Premji. Khosla Ventures focuses on early stage companies in the internet, computing, mobile, silicon technology and clean technology sectors. In cleantech sector, the firm has invested in bio-refineries for energy and bio-plastics, solar, battery and other environment friendly technologies. Premji Invest, which is the investment section that manages the Wipro founder's wealth, plans to diversify its portfolio and grab the opportunities offered by new technology companies in the U.S. The firm has invested in companies like ABG Shipyard, Dish TV India, JM Financial, Marico, Shoppers Stop, Koutons and Today's Writing Products and in private firms such as HealthCare Global Enterprises.
