Smita Deo, a 52-year old set up a chappati-making unit in Pune in partnership with her daughter, Kalyani in 2010. The unit is known as Abhiruchi and what makes it different from others is that it is branded and has a shelf life of 18 months.
Smita says, “We got the technology for the long shelf life from a family friend of my daughter's father-in-laws, Mr Kale. He used to cater to factory canteens, making 35,000 chapatis a day. Mr Kale had developed the technology and since he wanted out of the business, we bought the business,"
