Giving a boost, India's spacefaring efforts, and encouraging spacetech startups Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took the founding step of constructing country's second launch site in Kulasekharapatnam, located in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu.  The small community of rocket in India among ISRO & startups are literally getting very much excited over the new launch pad, anticipating increased efficiency in launching small rockets.

Till date, India had a single spaceport situated at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, from where all rockets launching satellites into space were deployed. Till now, India has conducted 95 launches from Sriharikota, in which total 85 launches were heavily successful.  The name of the rocket launching station is  Satish Dhawan Space Center, which began its journey in 1971 with the launch of an RH-125 sounding rocket. Lately, India is all set to launch its satellite Gaganyaan, which is India's human space flight effort.

The rocket launching station is located in the southern part of India, which witnessed all iconic missions including the Chandrayaan-series, Mangalyaan, Aditya-L1, and launches by startups also have been carried out from here.

Lately, Sriharikota has two launchpads belonging to ISRO, Government of India. All operational Indian rockets can be launched from these two launchpads. In the year of 2023, Spacetech startup Agnikul Cosmos inaugurated their launchpad at Sriharikota, in the hope of launching their rockets from there.

The Bhumi puja of the land parcel where this unmatchable launching station will be established in the morning and the Prime Minister has joined it through virtual mode. The land is spread over approximately 2,300 acres.

Both Sriharikota and Kulasekarapattinam are situated on India's east coast, 700km apart. Satish Dhawan Space Center enjoys a clear advantage due to its remarkable position.  For rockets launching southward or in polar trajectories, the land mass of Sri Lanka poses a safety concern, preventing rocket debris from falling on foreign land.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, India's Science Minister, stated that, Tamil Nadu Government has allocated over 961 hectares in the Thoothukudi area for the second launch site. The founder of Skyroot, Pawan Chandana is very much optimistic about this new site because, it enables southward launches to Sun-synchronous polar orbits without compromising payload, catering to the growing market for such missions.

Agnikul Cosmos Private Limited, currently gearing up for the launch of its small on-demand rocket called Agniban. According to the statement of ISRO, this new station will boost the space-tech industry and more and more space tech startups will appear in coming days with new technologies.
