5. Mel and Robyn Gibson

Settlement amount : 425 million

This was considered to be the costliest celebrity divorce settlement. Mel Gibson, renowned film maker had to hand over half of his $850 million fortune when he split with Robyn. The divorce was finalized in December 2011 though it was filed two years earlier. The split happened following the release of photographs of him with a Russian song writer Oksana Grigorieva. The settlement also included revenue from his future films and he was also ordered to pay child support to the tune of $750,000, plus a multi-million dollar settlement.
