RCB Triumph After Six Losses as Karn, Cameron, Swapnil Dismantle SRH in IPL 2024
Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their first victory in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 35 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. Karn Sharma, Cameron Green, and Swapnil Singh were instrumental in the win, each claiming a couple of wickets in a stellar bowling performance.
Karn Sharma impressed with figures of 2-29 in three overs, while Cameron Green contributed with 2-12 in two overs. Swapnil Singh showcased his impact by dismissing the dangerous duo of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klassen, ending with figures of 2-40. Their efforts complemented the batting display of Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar, who both scored half-centuries to propel Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a total of 208/7.
Cameron Green's all-round performance was noteworthy, as he not only scored a brisk 37 off 20 balls but also took a crucial catch. Sunrisers Hyderabad, chasing a target of 207, struggled to build momentum and were restricted to 171/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Despite Sunrisers Hyderabad's reputation for posting big totals in the season, they faltered in their chase, losing wickets early on. Travis Head's dismissal in the first over set the tone for their innings, as they lost four wickets in the Power-play itself.
RCB captain Faf du Plessis' decision to bat first paid off, and his team continued their aggressive approach by opening the bowling with off-spinner Will Jacks, who claimed the wicket of Travis Head. Abhishek Sharma, another opener for Sunrisers Hyderabad, played a quickfire innings of 31 runs before falling to Yash Dayal.
Sunrisers Hyderabad faced further setbacks as Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klassen departed early, leaving them reeling at 56/4 in the fifth over. Swapnil Singh, brought in as an Impact Player, made significant contributions by taking crucial wickets.
Despite brief resistance from players like Pat Cummins, who scored 31 off 15 balls, Sunrisers Hyderabad continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Cameron Green and Karn Sharma capitalized on the situation, claiming key wickets to seal Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory.
