Faf du Plessis, Smriti Mandhana, along with batting maestro Virat Kohli, revealed the updated identity of RCB - now named Royal Challengers Bengaluru - alongside showcasing the team's fresh jersey at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The unveiling took place during the enchanting RCB Unbox 2024 event, confirming the long-speculated change in name and logo for the team.
Celebrating the spirit of passionate and enthusiastic fans of the team the 12th Man Army, one of the most loyal fan bases in the world the remarkable event took place for the third time, and it was even more special this time, especially after the women’s team’s recent triumph in the Women’s Premier League 2024.
The unique exciting event provided fans with a memorable experience to watch their favourite stars in action live ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, with the entire team taking part in a training session, showcasing glimpses of what they can anticipate in the upcoming season. Kohli along with women’s team captain Mandhana and men’s team skipper Du Plessis launched the new jersey.
Kohli, Du Plessis, Mohammed Siraj, and Glenn Maxwell, beloved by fans, were greeted with thunderous applause as they stepped onto the field alongside other RCB luminaries in the bustling M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Adding to the excitement, the victorious women's team under Mandhana's leadership, fresh from securing the WPL 2024 championship just days ago, graced the occasion. They were honored with a special guard of honor by the men's team, eliciting resounding applause from the enthusiastic crowd.
Former India fast bowler and RCB stalwart R. Vinay Kumar joined the prestigious RCB Hall of Fame alongside AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, recognizing his significant contributions. Vinay Kumar stands as the third-highest wicket-taker for RCB. On an exhilarating evening, fans were treated to captivating music performances featuring renowned DJ Alan Walker and other popular artists like Raghu Dixit, Neeti Mohan, Brotha V, and Jordindian, among others. RCB is set to commence their campaign in the 2024 IPL opener against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on Friday, followed by their first home game of the league on March 25 in Bengaluru.
