TATA IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans sign Sandeep Warrier as replacement for injured Shami
Gearing up for the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), the Gujarat Titans have made an announcement regarding an injury replacement for Mohammed Shami. Sandeep Warrier, an Indian international, has been brought in to fill Shami's spot for the upcoming season. Despite having limited experience with just one T20I appearance against Sri Lanka during the pandemic in 2021, Warrier joins the Titans' roster for the challenge ahead.
Set to join the Gujarat franchise at his base price of INR 50 Lakhs, Warrier steps in as the replacement. Shami, currently recovering from surgery on his right heel, is yet to resume competitive cricket following his impressive performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Warrier, aged 32, has previously featured in five IPL matches spanning the 2019-21 seasons with the Kolkata Knight Riders. With the guidance of head coach Ashish Nehra, he aims to leverage his experience and regain form.
The Titans boast a strong fast-bowling lineup with several viable options already in place. They made a significant investment of 10 crores INR in securing the services of Australian speedster Spencer Johnson, who is expected to spearhead the attack alongside Azmatullah Omarzai, Umesh Yadav, and Mohit Sharma, among others. Opening their season with a home fixture against the Mumbai Indians, it is imperative for the Gujarat Giants, led by newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, to kick off on a positive note as they strive to reclaim the title they clinched back in 2022.
Updated Squad for Gujarat Titans for IPL 2024: Shubman Gill (c), David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Kane Williamson, Sai Sudharsan, Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Jayant Yadav, Vijay Shankar, Azmatullah Omarzai, Darshan Nalkande, Shahrukh Khan, Umesh Yadav, Josh Little (IRE), R.
