TATA IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals Defeat Titans by 6 Wickets, Rise to Sixth in Points Table
Delhi Capitals secured a convincing victory over Gujarat Titans by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium, thanks to notable contributions from Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel, and Shai Hope. Ishant Sharma's early breakthroughs, combined with Mukesh Kumar's stellar bowling performance of 3-14, restricted GT to a meager 89 runs. DC chased down the target in just 8.5 overs, bolstering their net run rate significantly.
Following their significant win in Ahmedabad, DC climbed from the ninth position to the sixth spot in the points table, overtaking GT in the process. In the pursuit of a modest target of 90, Fraser-McGurk immediately found his rhythm, launching Sandeep Warrier for a six and a four, then repeating the feat off Spencer Johnson's deliveries with two slashing strokes for the same outcome.
His short yet cracking knock ended at 20 off 10 balls after flicking to mid-wicket off Johnson. Warrier got his first scalp in the third over with a well-directed bouncer which Prithvi Shaw ballooned to short third man. Porel was delightful in punching and pulling for a four and two sixes before being castled by Warrier.
Hope nailed his flicks and flat-bat shots to pick three quick boundaries before reverse-sweeping to backward point off Rashid Khan. Rishabh Pant continued his impressive time by flat-batting a drive off Noor Ahmed for four before dancing down the pitch to clear long-off for six.
Sumit Kumar struck Noor for two consecutive fours, with the second boundary coming off a bottom edge, ultimately sealing the victory for DC. They completed the chase in 53 legal deliveries, witnessing a remarkable rise in their net run-rate from -0.975 to -0.074.
