SRH’s Sharma Shatters Records in IPL's Greatest Indian Innings
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma etched his name in the history books with a blistering 141 off just 55 balls the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history during a monumental run chase against Punjab Kings on Saturday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
The 24-year-old left-handed opener delivered a jaw-dropping display of power hitting, smashing 14 fours and 10 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 256.36. His record-breaking century, the first of his IPL career, came off just 40 balls the third-fastest ton by an Indian in the league, behind Yusuf Pathan (37 balls) and Priyansh Arya (39 balls).
Abhishek’s knock powered SRH to a sensational 8-wicket win as they chased down a daunting 246-run target — the second-highest successful run chase in IPL history with nine balls to spare. He shared a record 171-run opening partnership with Travis Head, who contributed a quickfire 66.
With this innings, Abhishek now holds the third-highest individual score in IPL history, only behind Chris Gayle’s 175* and Brendon McCullum’s 158*. He surpassed Quinton de Kock’s unbeaten 140* to become the top-scoring Indian in the tournament’s storied history.
The emotional high point came when Abhishek celebrated his century by pulling out a folded note from his pocket that read: “This one is for Orange Army.” The heartfelt gesture went viral, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Retained by SRH for Rs 14 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Abhishek’s historic knock couldn’t have come at a more opportune time, firmly cementing his status as one of the most explosive batters in the tournament.
