Cricket fans heading to Wankhede Stadium on Thursday evening for the IPL showdown between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) should prepare for significant traffic congestion in south Mumbai, particularly around Marine Drive and Churchgate.
The match is set to begin at 7:30 PM, and although no formal traffic advisory has been issued, authorities expect heavy vehicular and pedestrian movement due to the large turnout anticipated.
Commuters are advised to plan ahead and consider alternate routes, as traffic bottlenecks are likely to develop in the hours leading up to and following the game. Parking around the stadium will be extremely limited, further adding to the strain on surrounding roads.
A similar scenario unfolded during MI’s last home fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31, which caused major disruptions along Marine Drive and adjacent routes.
Office-goers, residents, and those traveling through the Churchgate area are urged to either avoid peak evening travel or leave early to steer clear of potential delays.
Public transport is expected to bear the brunt of post-match crowds, with local trains and BEST buses around Churchgate likely to experience a surge in ridership. Authorities are on alert to manage crowd control and traffic flow throughout the evening.
