Sanju Samson Unveils Team India's Special Felicitation Jersey
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has revealed a new special jersey to honor Team India's recent triumph in the Men's T20 World Cup. The jersey, shared by Samson on Instagram, features a second star above the BCCI logo, signifying India’s historic second T20 World Cup victory.
The Rohit Sharma-led squad, who clinched the T20 World Cup title after a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa at the Kensington Oval on June 29, arrived in New Delhi early Thursday morning. They were greeted by thousands of jubilant fans at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, where the celebratory mood was palpable despite the weather and heavy security.
The team's return was marked by a specially arranged charter flight, which brought them back from Bridgetown after hurricane Beryl caused a three-day delay. Fans at the airport caught their first glimpse of the T20 World Cup trophy as the team showcased it to a cheering crowd before heading to the ITC Maurya hotel.
The newly unveiled jersey is adorned with the word 'champions' across the front, serving as a bold reminder of their hard-fought victory. The second star atop the BCCI logo connects this achievement to India’s first T20 World Cup win in 2007 under MS Dhoni's leadership, weaving together past and present triumphs in a proud testament to the team's perseverance.
After a brief rest, the victorious 15-member squad, accompanied by the Rahul Dravid-led support staff, is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. This meeting will celebrate the team's dedication and skill, honoring their remarkable achievement on the global stage.
Following their meeting with the Prime Minister, the team will return to the airport for a special flight to Mumbai. Upon arrival, they will head to the Wankhede Stadium for a 1 km victory parade from Nariman Point. The parade will be followed by a ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium, where the BCCI has arranged for the team to be felicitated in front of their adoring fans, culminating the celebrations of their T20 World Cup success.
