RCB Get the Last Laugh with Dominant Win Over Punjab Kings
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) delivered a commanding seven-wicket victory over Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Sunday, avenging their earlier defeat in style. The match not only saw RCB outplay Punjab on the field but also sparked a heated exchange off the field, particularly on social media.
In their previous meeting, Punjab Kings had triumphed over RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and celebrated the win by posting a video recreating Virat Kohli’s dance from a popular advertisement. However, RCB turned the tables this time. Following their win, Kohli celebrated with a charged gesture aimed at Shreyas Iyer, adding spice to the rivalry. RCB’s social media team then posted a cheeky video of Kohli dancing with a caption that read, “Every masterpiece has a copy. Stick to the original. Enjoy”. Another post followed with the statement, “If you can give it, you gotta take it back as well”, signaling a confident response to Punjab’s earlier mockery.
On the pitch, Kohli was at his brilliant best, anchoring the chase with an unbeaten 71 off 54 deliveries, featuring seven boundaries and a six. Devdutt Padikkal played the aggressor, hammering 61 runs off just 35 balls, including five fours and four sixes. Their crucial 103-run partnership for the second wicket ensured a smooth chase as RCB reached the target of 158 in 18.5 overs. Kohli was named Player of the Match for his calm and composed match-winning knock.
Earlier in the match, Punjab Kings managed 157 for 6 in their 20 overs, as RCB bowlers maintained tight control. Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma were the standout performers with two wickets each, applying pressure at key moments to restrict the Punjab lineup.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar praised the all-round performance and credited both the bowlers and the top order for executing the team’s plans perfectly. He also highlighted the improved fielding and disciplined bowling, especially on a slow surface. Patidar emphasized the need to continue this form at home as they prepare to host Rajasthan Royals on April 24.
With this win, RCB moved to third on the IPL 2025 points table, accumulating 10 points from eight matches, and reignited their campaign with confidence and flair.
