Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recorded a thrilling 12-run win against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, their first success there since 2015. While chasing a difficult total of 222, MI scored 209/9 from their allotted 20 overs despite a desperate try by their middle order.
Tilak Varma led the way for Mumbai with a serene half-century, while skipper Hardik Pandya illuminated the stadium with a scorching 42 from a mere 15 balls. But all their work went in vain as RCB's Krunal Pandya served up a masterful final over, getting rid of Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, and Naman Dhir to wrap up the game.
Earlier in the game, MI had won the toss and decided to bowl. RCB took advantage of the decision, scoring a strong 221/5. Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar held the innings together with strong half-centuries, laying the platform for a high-scoring game. Hardik and Trent Boult were among the wickets for MI, taking two each.
The Man of the Match award went to Krunal Pandya, who was the top performer bowling for RCB with four scalps in an award-winning performance. The victory moved RCB to third place on the league table with three victories in four games. Meanwhile, MI could not continue the trend this season and fell to eighth position after a single win from five encounters.
