Punjab Kings will kick off their home season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with high hopes as they take on Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
The Kings, undefeated so far this season, are eyeing a strong home performance, looking to improve on their underwhelming home record from the previous edition, where they managed only one win at this venue. With renewed energy and a revamped squad, the team appears confident and determined to deliver in front of home fans.
“What’s gone is gone, we’re at a different level this year”, said Sunil Joshi, Punjab Kings’ spin bowling coach. “With a new team and excellent camaraderie, the response has been outstanding. We still have a few hidden talents who’ll be unleashed at the right moment”.
Joshi praised the influence of head coach Ricky Ponting, saying his experience and clarity have brought a positive shift in the camp. “Ricky knows what he’s doing and what he expects. He’s brought great structure, and that’s showing in our results”.
Key players like Arshdeep Singh and Prabhsimran Singh, familiar with the conditions in Mullanpur, have already made vital contributions this season. Joshi also lauded emerging stars Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh, who have stepped up when needed. “Our captain is leading from the front, and the local lads are rising to the occasion. We’re looking forward to an exciting home run”, he added.
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals come into the match struggling, currently placed just one spot above the bottom of the table. However, they will be bolstered by the return of skipper Sanju Samson, who missed the previous game. “It was frustrating watching from the dugout, but I’m glad to be back. I’m looking forward to contributing again”, said Samson.
For RR to turn things around, the team will be banking on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel to rediscover form, while Shimron Hetmyer’s finishing skills will be crucial in the death overs.
With Punjab aiming to dominate at home and Rajasthan desperate for momentum, fans can expect a thrilling contest in Mullanpur tonight.
