Paris Olympics: Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara Advance to Archery Mixed Team Quarterfinals
Indian archers Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara have advanced to the quarterfinals of the mixed team archery event at the Paris Olympics. The duo secured their place by defeating Indonesia's Diananda Choirunisa and Arif Pangestu in the round of 16.
The Indian pair registered a 5-1 victory (37-36, 38-38, 38-37) against the Indonesian team in the pre-quarterfinals held at the Invalides. Ankita and Dhiraj dominated the first set with a score of 37-36. Although the Indonesians tied the second set, the Indian archers swiftly claimed the third set, sealing their win and advancing to the quarterfinals.
Next, India will face Spain for a spot in the semifinals. The quarterfinal match is scheduled for 5:45 pm (IST).
Earlier in the competition, India's men's individual archery campaign came to an early end. Four-time Olympian Tarundeep Rai was eliminated in the opening round, and Dhiraj Bommadevara narrowly lost in the second round. Both the men's and women's teams failed to progress beyond the quarterfinal stage.
However, there is still hope in the women’s individual event, with seasoned archer Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur reaching the pre-quarterfinals. Unfortunately, Ankita Bhakat was ousted in the first round.
