The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the Vice-Captain for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He will serve as deputy to skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto during the global tournament.
Announcing the decision on February 13, the BCB stated, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board has named Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the vice-captain for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The 27-year-old all-rounder has played 103 ODIs for Bangladesh and recently captained the ODI team in the West Indies in Shanto’s absence”.
Despite leading Bangladesh during their Caribbean tour without securing a victory, and captaining in a single ODI loss against Afghanistan, Miraz is viewed as a potential future captain. His leadership role in an ICC event signals the board’s confidence in his abilities.
Meanwhile, fast bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed will travel with the squad to Dubai for training. "Pacers Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed will accompany the team to Dubai for training purposes", the BCB confirmed. The duo will return home after Bangladesh’s first game in Dubai, as the rest of the tournament will be played in Pakistan.
Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy campaign kicks off against India on February 20 in Dubai. The team will then move to Rawalpindi, Pakistan, for their remaining group-stage matches:
- February 24: Bangladesh vs. New Zealand in Rawalpindi
- February 27: Bangladesh vs. China in Rawalpindi
All matches will begin at 3:00 PM Bangladesh time.
