Mumbai Indians (MI) will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a much-awaited encounter at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Monday, March 31, at 7:30 pm IST. This will be the 12th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, and both teams will look to pick up momentum in the tournament.
Having lost two games in a row, MI are in dire need of a revival. The five-time winners, who have a reputation of beginning slow, require more reliability from their batting unit. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton remain untested fire, while Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma provide promise. Hardik Pandya's captaincy is questioned, and the absence of Jasprit Bumrah continues to be a huge miss for the bowling unit.
KKR, under Ajinkya Rahane, come into the game with confidence following their victory over Rajasthan Royals. Their deadly spin combination of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy will be instrumental on a batters-friendly track, supplemented by Rinku Singh and Andre Russell's explosive hits. KKR will seek to emulate their success at Wankhede last year.
The Wankhede pitch is generally a batting haven, with pacers getting some initial movement before the pitch flattens out. With the small boundaries, one can expect another high-scoring affair under the lights in Mumbai.
