Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a thrilling 12-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in an intense IPL 2025 clash at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on Friday.
Batting first after winning the toss, LSG rode on blazing half-centuries from openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. Marsh smashed 60 off just 31 balls, while Markram anchored the innings with a steady 53 from 38 deliveries. Despite a middle-order stumble, Ayush Badoni (30) and David Miller (27) added vital runs to push LSG’s total to a competitive 203 for 8 in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya was the standout bowler for MI, bagging a sensational 5-wicket haul (5/36), his best in T20 cricket.
In response, MI got off to a decent start, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the charge with a fluent 67 off 43 balls, laced with nine fours and a six. Naman Dhir (46) and Tilak Varma (25) offered support, but the team fell short in the final overs. MI ended their innings at 191 for 5, falling short by 12 runs.
LSG bowlers kept their nerves under pressure, with Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Digvesh Singh Rathi each claiming a wicket. Rathi was particularly economical, conceding just 21 runs in his spell.
MI missed the services of veteran Rohit Sharma, who was ruled out due to a knee injury sustained during practice.
With this win, LSG continues to build momentum in the tournament, showcasing depth in both their batting and bowling units.
