TATA IPL 2024: Rayudu, 'Win Over PBKS to Boost RR's Top-Two Hopes'
Ambati Rayudu, the ex-India batsman, believes that a victory over Punjab Kings would significantly boost Rajasthan Royals' morale as they aim to secure a top-two finish in the IPL 2024 league stage, especially after enduring three consecutive losses. Rajasthan Royals secured their playoff spot, becoming the second team to do so after Delhi Capitals defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 19 runs, concluding their campaign with 14 points from 14 matches.
Under Sanju Samson's leadership, the team has faced setbacks in its recent three matches and is now focused on regaining momentum before entering the knockout phase of the tournament. Despite these setbacks, Rajasthan Royals had a strong start with four consecutive wins and has consistently held a spot in the top four throughout the season. Despite slipping in their recent games, they maintain their position in second place on the points table with 16 points from 12 matches.
“They've played well throughout the season and this is the lucky break they've got at a crucial time when they aren't performing at their best. So this will give them the confidence as they go in for their next 2 games and hopefully they can qualify for the playoffs too", Rayudu told Star Sports.
After Punjab, the Jaipur-based franchise will take on table toppers Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their final league stage encounter. The veteran cricketer believes that Rajasthan should aim for a win against Punjab as Kolkata will give a tough challenge. "Of course, they would love to win the next game they are playing and ideally should be winning it because the final game they play is against KKR. I don't think KKR will give them anything easy because they will be scared about RR coming into the playoffs, especially in the top 2, given the form RR have shown in the tournament", Rayudu said.
Former England captain Paul Collingwood shared his thoughts on the replacement of Jos Butler and Rajasthan Royals making it to playoffs,"Tom Kohler-Cadmore is very powerful in the first six overs, so he could be a great replacement for Jos. It's an English-to-English switch, which is good for the Rajasthan Royals. They can relax now, they've got the qualification under the belt so they can definitely relax".
Buttler, with 359 runs at an average of 39.89 in 11 matches, showcasing two centuries, has been in formidable form. However, as he gears up for the upcoming T20 World Cup, he has departed from the Rajasthan camp to commence his preparations for the event scheduled next month. Rajasthan Royals are set to take on Punjab at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, Assam, later in the day.
