Punjab Kings registered a comprehensive 37-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2025 clash at Dharamsala on Sunday, moving up to second place on the points table with 15 points from 11 matches. The win was anchored by a blistering knock from opener Prabhsimran Singh, who hammered 91 off 48 balls, supported by key contributions across the batting order that propelled PBKS to an imposing total of 236/5.
Prabhsimran and Australia's Josh Inglis (30) laid the early foundation with a quick 48-run stand for the second wicket after the loss of Bairstow. Skipper Shreyas Iyer (45) then joined hands with Prabhsimran to add 78 runs, further strengthening Punjab's position. The opener was given a lifeline when Nicholas Pooran dropped him at 21, a miss that proved costly. Though Prabhsimran was eventually denied a century by leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi, late fireworks from Shashank Singh (33* off 14) and Marcus Stoinis (15* off 5) ensured PBKS finished on a high.
In response, Lucknow Super Giants faltered early in their chase. Arshdeep Singh delivered a fiery spell, striking twice in one over to dismiss Mitchell Marsh for a duck and Aiden Markram for 13, reducing LSG to 25/2. The left-arm seamer later returned to remove Nicholas Pooran for just 6, ending with figures of 3/16 and leaving Lucknow reeling.
Rishabh Pant, who was acquired by LSG for a record $3.21 million in the auction, once again failed to deliver. He managed a scratchy 18 off 17 balls before being dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai. Pant’s poor form continues to be a concern, having scored just 128 runs in 10 innings this season.
Omarzai also struck a major blow by dismissing David Miller for 11, leaving LSG struggling at 73/5. A late fightback was attempted by Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad. Badoni top-scored with a valiant 74, while Samad added 45, as the duo stitched together an 81-run partnership. However, their efforts only helped narrow the margin of defeat, as Lucknow managed 199/7 in their 20 overs.
With this defeat, Lucknow Super Giants have now lost four of their last five matches and sit seventh on the table with 10 points, four behind the fourth playoff spot with only three games remaining. Punjab, meanwhile, trail only Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who remain at the top.
Earlier in the day, Kolkata Knight Riders beat Rajasthan Royals by one run in a last-over thriller, climbing to sixth with 11 points.
Virat Kohli continues to hold the Orange Cap with 505 runs, while Gujarat Titans pacer Prasidh Krishna retains the Purple Cap with 19 wickets.
