Mumbai Indians Thrash CSK by 9 Wickets in Dominant Display at Wankhede
In a high-voltage IPL 2025 encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) handed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) a crushing 9-wicket defeat, chasing down a 177-run target with ease in just 15.4 overs. This emphatic win marked MI’s third consecutive victory, boosting their momentum in the tournament.
After being put into bat, CSK posted a competitive 176 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a slow start, debutant Ayush Mhatre impressed with a fiery cameo, while Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja scored crucial half-centuries to push the total to a fighting score. However, it was clear that CSK fell short on a batting-friendly surface, where anything under 200 seemed below par.
Mumbai’s chase began with a bang as Rohit Sharma looked in sublime touch right from the outset. Alongside Ryan Rickelton, who got a decent start before falling to Jadeja, Rohit ensured a blazing start in the powerplay. The strategic promotion of Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) to No. 3 proved to be a masterstroke by skipper Hardik Pandya.
SKY unleashed his trademark 360-degree stroke play, racing to a brisk 68 off 30 balls, while Rohit anchored the innings with a classic yet aggressive unbeaten 76 off 45 deliveries. The duo added a stunning 114-run partnership, the first century stand for MI this season, completely dismantling the CSK bowling attack.
Once Rohit reached his fifty, he shifted gears and pummeled the bowlers to all corners of the ground. With the dew setting in and the small boundaries aiding stroke play, CSK’s bowlers struggled for answers. MI eventually cruised to 177 for 1 in 15.4 overs, sealing the match with 26 balls to spare.
Rohit Sharma was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match, marking his 20th such accolade in IPL history – the most by any Indian player in the league.
In the other fixture of the day, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings by 7 wickets at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Chandigarh. Chasing 158, RCB reached the target in 18.5 overs, with a composed team performance.
Meanwhile, all eyes now turn to Eden Gardens, where Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will host Gujarat Titans (GT) in a much-anticipated clash this evening at 7:30 PM.
