IPL 2023: Shikhar Dhawan is leading Punjab Kings by example, says Mohammad Kaif
Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif stated that Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan is leading his team by example in the IPL 2023. Dhawan is the leading runs scorer and the current orange cap holder in the 10-team tournament, having hit 225 runs in his three outings. The left-hander has been playing a crucial role in PBKS' batting, anchoring his side to competitive totals.
The veteran India opener has also hit two back-to-back fifties in the last two matches of PBKS. Dhawan came close to bringing up a hundred but missed out on the opportunity twice. He hit 86 not out against Rajasthan Royals and remained unbeaten on 99 against SunRisers Hyderabad.
Kaif called Dhawan "Khalifa of IPL", adding that Punjab Kings have a good bowling unit."Punjab Kings' bowling is good. The team that has a good bowling unit has a better chance of finishing in the top four in the IPL," Kaif said.
"Shikhar Dhawan is the Khalifa of IPL. He is in form and leading his team by example. These conditions have further boosted the chances of his team going a long way this season."
Meanwhile, former Australia cricketer David Hussey pointed out that Punjab Kings are batting around their captain Dhawan. "Punjab Kings' strategy looks simple in IPL i.e. to bat around Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan has paced his innings brilliantly in the tournament, he's a world-class batter," Hussey said.
Punjab Kings will host the defending champions Gujarat Titans at Mohali. Both sides are coming on the back of defeats, with PBKS going down against SRH and GT suffering a final-over nightmare against KKR.
