Indian Women's Team Clinches Inaugural Kho Kho World Cup Title
The Indian women's team made history by becoming the first-ever champions of the Kho Kho World Cup, defeating Nepal in a thrilling final at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. With a clinical display of speed, strategy, and teamwork, the Women in Blue triumphed with a commanding 78-24 scoreline.
India got off to a great start in Turn 1 with skipper Priyanka Ingle spearheading the effort. The raiders ended Nepal's raids with mere hand-to-hand contacts seven times and garnered 14 points within no time. India was at 34 points by the end of the first turn while not allowing Nepal a single Dream Run.
Nepal fought back in Turn 2, with Manmati Dhami and B Samjhana eliminating key Indian players. Despite their efforts, including an ALL OUT by Dipa, Nepal could only muster 24 points, trailing by 11 at halftime.
India regained their control in Turn 3 as their defensive line did not let Nepal breathe. BK Dipa tried to bring back that moment for Nepal, but India was unstoppable and continued to play. Finally, in the last Turn 4, Chaithra orchestrated a crucial Dream Run to bring in an impressive 5-minute, 14-second batch, and India closed the game with an unmatched 78 points with this coveted title under their belt.
Stellar performances highlighted the women's journey to the championship, which involved group-stage victories against South Korea, Iran, and Malaysia, followed by a quarter-final win against Bangladesh and a semi-final triumph over South Africa.
The Indian team has established a new benchmark in this sport by unleashing exceptional skill and teamwork during the inaugural edition of the Kho Kho World Cup.
