India back to 2nd spot in WTC25 standings after Vizag win
After a significant 106-run win against England in the second Test, India has regained the second spot in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 standings. This victory at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium has boosted India's point percentage to 52.77, narrowing the gap with the leading team, Australia. The top section of the table is fiercely contested, with just a 5 percent point percentage difference separating five teams, as per the ICC reports.
India had previously dropped to fifth behind Bangladesh in the WTC standings after their shock 28-run defeat to England in the series opener in Hyderabad. After the loss in the series opener, India responded well with a remarkable performance in the second Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a crucial role, achieving a double-century in the initial innings and guiding India to a total of 396 runs.
The standout performance of the match was Jasprit Bumrah's outstanding bowling, securing a six-wicket haul that dismantled the English lineup, limiting them to 253 in the initial innings. With a substantial 143-run lead, Shubman Gill's century bolstered India's advantage, establishing a formidable target of 399 for England. In the fourth innings, Zak Crawley emerged as the solitary warrior for England, being the only batter to exceed the 50-run mark. Ravichandran Ashwin and Bumrah contributed with three wickets each, dismissing England for 292. This resulted in a 106-run victory for India, leveling the five-match series at 1-1.
