Delhi Capitals Edge Rajasthan Royals in First Super Over Thriller of IPL 2025 to Go Top
Delhi Capitals clinched a dramatic win over Rajasthan Royals in the first super over of the 2025 IPL, climbing to the top of the table after a nail-biting finish on Wednesday.
Chasing 12 in the super over, Tristan Stubbs sealed the victory for Delhi with a towering six off Sandeep Sharma’s fourth delivery. Rajasthan, batting first in the super over, faltered as Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal were both run out, with only two wickets permitted in the decider.
Mitchell Starc bowled the super over for Delhi, surviving a no-ball that also went for four. Rajasthan's decision to leave out Nitish Rana – who earlier hammered 51 off 28 balls – proved costly.
The match had reached the super over after Rajasthan needed nine runs from the final over bowled by Starc. With two runs needed off the final delivery, Dhruv Jurel was run out attempting a second run, forcing the tie.
Rajasthan’s chase of 189 was built on solid innings from Jaiswal (51) and Rana, but a sharp yorker from Starc in the 18th over removed Rana, with 28 runs still required. Starc then delivered a stellar final over to force the deadlock.
Delhi’s 188-5 was powered by Abishek Porel’s 49 at the top, with KL Rahul scoring 38. Stubbs remained unbeaten on 34 off 18 balls, while skipper Axar Patel smashed 34 off just 14 deliveries. Jofra Archer stood out for Rajasthan with 2-32.
Delhi have now won five of their first six games, while Rajasthan continue to struggle, losing five out of seven.
