Deepti Sharma Rises to Career-Best No. 2 in ODI Bowler Rankings
India all-rounder Deepti Sharma has reached the career-best No. 2 spot in the Women's ODI bowlers rankings in the latest update released by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
With the three wickets she managed in the first two one-dayers against New Zealand, Deepika has found herself on two places, but second spot, on the latest list of ODI bowlers, with an India spinner having gained a new career-high rating on the process and closing to England tweaker and current No.1 ranked ODI bowler Sophie Ecclestone.
The knock of 79 in the second match helped New Zealand captain Sophie Devine to move to a career-best eighth position in the batting rankings.
Deepiti has also climbed one rung ahead of the list of all-rounders, reaching fourth place as she shared the win with the first game through her all-round performance of 41 and one for 35. Devine too has moved ahead of the ninth position to take up the seventh among all-rounders as she returned three for 27 from the second game. She has also climbed nine notches to the 30th position in the list of bowling rankings.
The 19-year-old New Zealand all-rounder, Amelia Kerr, missed the rest of the one-day series after suffering a left quadriceps injury that came while fielding following the opening match. After excellent all-round performances of 25 not out and four for 42 in the opener, she climbed the batting and bowling charts respectively to the 11th and 13th position.
Others to advance up the batting ranks from their individual performances from the series include New Zealand Suzie Bates who has jumped up from 17th to 15th, Maddy Green six places up to 18th while Brooke Halliday is up three places to 36th while home improvements comprise Jemimah Rodrigues of the team are playing at their home grounds, who have moved three places up to 30th and Shafali Verma up two places to 54th. There was one mover in bowling rankings, Lea Tuhuhu who jumped three places to 12th.
The latest weekly rankings also include performances in the five-match series between Zimbabwe and the United States of America in Harare that the home side won 3-2, and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, the Zimbabwe batter, has attained a career-best 21st position after scores of 28, 33, and 60 in the last three matches of the series played over the past week.
Other Zimbabweans who have moved up the batting ranks are Modester Mupachikwa, now 46th, from nine places from the last ranking, while Ashley Ndiraya moved up 28 places to become 47th. In the bowling rankings, Josephine Nkomo moved up 13 places to reach 32nd.
For USA, batting rankings have moved in the right direction. Disha Dhingra is now 55th ranked with a gain of 22 places while Sindhu Sriharsha progressed 42 places and took the 57th place batting ranking. Bowling rankings placed Aditiba Chudasama at 58th place with an improvement of 12 places.
India stand at 23 points from 14 matches while New Zealand is on 20 from 20 matches. Australia tops the points table with 28 from 18 matches and England with 28 from 21 matches.
