Cricket veteran Shahbaz Nadeem, hailing from Jharkhand, has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of a illustrious career that spanned over two decades. With a remarkable record of over 500 wickets in first-class cricket, Nadeem's journey has been etched with numerous achievements and unforgettable moments.
Making his first-class debut in 2004 against Kerala, Nadeem's early prowess was evident as he secured two wickets in that maiden match. His international career saw him don the Indian Test cap, with a memorable debut against South Africa in Ranchi in October 2019, where he claimed four wickets. He continued to showcase his skills in the Test format, featuring in another match against England in 2021.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Nadeem contributed significantly, playing a total of 72 matches for Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad. His domestic cricket journey included being the leading wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy for the seasons 2015–16 and 2016–17, as well as achieving the same feat in the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Notably, Nadeem holds the record for the best figures in List A cricket, with an impressive 8 for 10 against Rajasthan in 2018-19.
During his stint with India A from 2013 to 2020, Nadeem showcased his bowling prowess by claiming a remarkable 83 wickets at an average of 28.46. The seasoned cricketer bids farewell as the eighth-highest wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy, amassing a total of 416 wickets in domestic cricket. In first-class cricket, his legacy stands strong with 542 wickets in 140 matches at an average of 28.86, further supported by 175 wickets in List A and 125 wickets in T20 cricket.
