One of the pioneers of the fusion rock genre in India, their music has been criticized as "Indo-rock fusion with jazz-spiced rhythms that integrates shlokas, sufism, environmentalism, mythology and revolution". In 2009, the band lost Asheem Chakravarty, one of their potential performers. Till now, the band has not announced any permanent replacement for Chakravarty but have Himanshu Joshi to fill in Chakravarty’s vocals. Their album 16/330 Khajoor Road, is named after a picturesque 100-year old bungalow in Delhi’s crowded Karol Bagh where the band practiced.

Bhayanak Maut mostly performs in Oasis-BITS Pilani, RAIT Horizons, IIT Chennai – Saarang (Finalists), NLS Strawberry Fields Bangalore, and Goa's Waves Festival. Their biggest break was reaching the finals of Garnier Fructis presents Channel V Launchpad live at Hard Rock Café, New Delhi. They are also regulars at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender Festival. They also shared the stage with many international bands such as Satyricon, Textures, Sarso ka Sahg, Benea Reach, Intronaut, and Amar Akbar Anthony.
