This veteran designer is the winner of the country's fourth highest civilian award, ‘Padmasri’ in 2013 for her exceptional and distinguished service in the field of fashion. Ritu’s creations are picked by various bollywood celebs like Aiswarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Lara Dutta and Dia Mirza. The designs are internationally carried out by Mischa Barton, Anoushka Shankar and Anna Ivanovic.
All time style icons such as late princes Diana and Jemima Khan have also put on Ritu’s outfits. All though she hails from Punjab and put up in Delhi her initial steps to the fashion world was when she was in Kolkata. Thus Kolkata claims this talented lady as theirs.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee
Sabyasachi Mukherjee is the Only Indian designer to have showcased clothing at the New York, London and Milan fashion weeks. He comes from a middle class Bengali family. After getting graduated from NIFT in 1999 he started his workshop and over the years inscribed his label in the fashion world.
He uses unusual fabrics, texturing and detailing, 'fusion' of styles, 'patch-work' with embellishments in vibrant colors. His creations evoke images of ancient and medieval ages. He describes his own collections as 'an International styling with an Indian soul’. Guzaarish, Babul, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Raavan and English Vinglish are some of the Bollywood movies for which he has done designing.
