Reliance Foundation operates in all states and over 54,000 villages across India: Nita Ambani's
Even as Nita Ambani steps down from the RIL board, she will continue to drive Reliance Foundation as its chairperson. Speaking at the Reliance AGM, she stated "From culture to climate, education, and sports to women's empowerment, healthcare to livelihoods, and rural transformation to disaster management, we work in all states and over 54,000 villages across India." Nita Ambani will continue to attend all the RIL board meetings as a permanent invitee.
At the AGM, she spoke of the work done by the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), which opened in April this year, as being very close to her heart. The Swadesh initiative of the NMACC, aimed at preserving and promoting India's age old arts and crafts, will be supported by a new digitally-enabled capacity-building program - the Reliance Foundation Skilling Centres for Artisans. "We are now eagerly looking forward to opening our new school, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School," Nita Ambani said in her AGM address. "Led by my daughter Isha, this new school is envisioned as a model school of the future with an Indian soul. " In addition, a world-class teacher leadership institute and awards are being established to foster teacher innovation.
Five thousand and one hundred scholarships were awarded through Reliance Foundation Undergraduate and Postgraduate Scholarships as part of the commitment to support 50,000 students through scholarships over the next 10 years made on the 90th birth anniversary of Reliance founder chairman Dhirubhai Ambani last year, Nita Ambani said this as part of her AGM address. In partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Reliance Foundation has launched a special initiative to empower one million women entrepreneurs across India, she announced at the AGM. Over the next three years, this initiative will support and engage women in farm and non-farm income-generating activities, helping them achieve an annual income of at least 1 lakh, she said.
"Iam delighted that Reliance is collaborating with our foundation and with my climate organization, Breakthrough Energy, on some of the world's toughest challenges - addressing climate change, helping unlock economic power for women, and improving health outcomes for the poor," said Bill Gates in his virtual address at the AGM. In the field of sports, Nita Ambani said last year, Reliance Foundation-backed athletes won a total of 139 medals at international and national levels with Jyothi Yarraji, Lovlina Borgohain, DM Jayaram, Tilottama Sen, Unnati Hooda and Amlan Borgohain being some of them. "As a member of the International Olympic Committee, it has been my dream to bring the Olympics to India", she said. "In October, we will host the 141st IOC Session at the NMACC".
