Fourth Gen Toyota Prius Unveiled in Japan


BANGALORE: The Japanese auto maker Toyota had unveiled the fourth edition of its Prius model. The latest version is tweaked under the Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, to enhance the performance like a cost-efficient development of new front and rear-wheel-drive models. As the company claims, the double wishbone layout is added for better handling and steering response.

The new generation Prius is now available to purchase but only in Japan. However, it will reach other countries either this year or starting from 2016. The previous Prius’ lacked some features and this facelift edition packs in some exciting features and here are highlights of the new Prius, reports ET.

Price

First things first, the fourth generation Prius carries a price tag that starts from 2.4 Million Yen (Approx. 13.09 Lakhs) to 3.39 Million Yen (Approx. 18.51 Lakhs).

Variants & Special Features

This time, Toyota offers their new hybrid car with four variants, "E","S", "A", and "A Premium".

The new Bi-Beam LED headlamps and smart keyless entry are common on all the variants. However the top two variants, "A" and "A Premium" will pack in the Toyota Safety Sense P collision avoidance and a mitigation package.

Engines

The fourth gen Prius is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder DOHC engine which puts out about  of 97 Bhp of power at 5,200 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm. The electric motor on the other hand, is connected with nickel metal hydride battery that produces up to 71Bhp of power.

Electronic 4-wheel drive

This edition Prius is built for can do off-roading as well, as Toyota is offering "Touring Selection" – the technology powers all the four wheels and calibrates it to maintain equal power distribution on each wheel.

India Entry

Toyota has confirmed that the new generation Prius will debut in the 2016 Auto Expo Delhi and its expected Indian debut will be in the first week of February.
