DEPwD to Host Conference on AI-Driven Empowerment for Persons with Disabilities

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is set to organise a landmark conference on utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to empower persons with disabilities (PwDs). Scheduled for May 30 in Bengaluru, the event is being held in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO).
This pioneering conference aims to highlight the transformative potential of AI in developing inclusive, accessible, and assistive technologies for PwDs. It will gather eminent academicians, technologists, innovators, policymakers, startups, and global stakeholders to discuss and demonstrate cutting-edge AI applications that improve the quality of life for the disabled community.
Alongside panel discussions, the conference will witness key launches such as Mission AI Accessibility, Mission AI: Implementation of AI in Assistive Technology and Tools for Empowering PwDs, the National Disability Support AI Chat Bot, and the Unified Benefits Interface (UBI).
The day-long event will feature sessions on innovative AI approaches and assistive technologies, enriched by real-life success stories shared by entrepreneurs, changemakers, and beneficiaries. Startups participating in the India AI Challenge (MeitY) and global innovators from South Korea’s Dot Inc, Torchit, Sunbots Innovations, Sohum Innovation Labs, Indic AI, Barrier Break, and Khyaal will showcase breakthroughs for developmental, visual, hearing, and multiple disabilities.
The conference will conclude with an interactive Q&A session and a ‘Way Forward’ address by Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary (DEPwD), outlining a strategic roadmap for inclusive AI development. The event promises to foster collaboration and inspire future-ready inclusive technology solutions.
