Audi R8 Coupe Clinches 2016 World Performance Car Award


BENGALURU: Audi has stamped its authority amidst the renowned car manufactures as its most popular Audi R8 Coupe is rewarded the crown of ‘World Performance Car of the Year’ in the World Car Awards at the NYIAC 2016, reports by Business Standard.

Among the arch-rivals – Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and McLaren; Audi’s second generation of R8 variant took home four trophies in different categories. The word-class automaker has already achieved four awards naming World Car of the Year for 2005 and 2014, World Performance Car for 2008 and 2007, and 2008 and 2007 World Car Design of the Year awards. Over the 8 record winnings, Audi became the most successful model in the history of the World Car awards.

The Audi R8 Coupe is equipped with the V10 mid-engine and a latest Quattro all-wheel drive system delivering extraordinary driving performance. Audi’s magnificent sports car packs 610 horsepower with maximum speed of 330 kmph. R8 Coupe speeds up from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds offering thrilling driving experience for the lovers of sports cars. As per the reports by Business Standard, Dietmar Voggenreiter, board member for sales and marketing at AUDI AG shared, "We are delighted that the Audi R8 has been voted as the 2016 World Performance Car. With its distinctive design, its driving dynamics and its closeness to racing, the R8 is one of the strongest calling cards for the four rings and is the flagship car from Audi Sport."

Audi’s exclusive journey to win this prestigious award started with an entry-listing of nine vehicles which in second round lessened to three high-class cars–the Audi R8, the Honda Civic Type R and the Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 Coupe. The final decision was taken through the voting of international panel of 73 automotive journalists from 23 countries around the world electing Audi R8 Coupe as the World Performance Card of the Year 2016.
