Volkswagen Recalls 78,083 Vehicles in China Due To Design Defects

BEIJING: Volkswagen China will recall 78,083 vehicles due to design defects, an official statement said on Wednesday.

Starting from January 25, the recall involves a range of models including Tiguan, Magotan and Golf produced between January 22, 2009 and May 6, 2014, Xinhua news agency reported.

Due to design defects in the electric module of the steering column switch, the car horn and airbag restraint systems may not work normally in extreme cases and pose safety risks, said the statement.

The carmaker offered to fix the module for free to eliminate the risks.
