The New Gen Skoda Superb is Here and It's Superb!

BENGALURU: Czech auto giant Skoda is a popular name among Indians, owing to their highly appreciated and trendy cars like the Octavia, Rapid and Superb. Extending the relationship further, Skoda Auto India has launched the third generation of its flagship sedan–the Skoda Superb. The new gen Superb, built on Volkswagen’s lightweight MQB platform, is priced between 22.68 lakh for the base model and 29.36 lakh for the top variant.

The new Superb is the latest in line to feature Skoda’s new design language, the Vision C Concept and to be fair, the car looks stunning. The front end has the Czech-carmaker’s signature butterfly grille with angular Bi-Xenon headlamps and LED daytime running lights. The rear end looks equally posh sporting a sloping roofline, LED wraparound taillights and 17 inch alloy wheels. Laid out in a piano black finish, the insides of the car is similar to the Volkswagen Passat, with electronically adjustable front seats, a 3 spoke steering wheel, lumbar support and triple-zone climate control.

It is more spacious and lighter than its predecessor, thanks to the new MQB platform, offering 157 mm extra legspace and a best-in-class boot space of 625 litre. The sedan’s safety features include Hill Hold Control, ABS, pedestrian protection, multi-collision brakes assists, dual front airbags and a Driver-fatigue detection system. Skoda has also revved up the entertainment quotient of its flagship vehicle by installing a 12 speaker CANTON audio system and a 6.5 inch Smartlink infotainment system.

The sedan comes with two engine options, a 177.5bhp, 1.8 litre TSI, direct injection, turbocharged petrol and a 174.6bhp, 2.0 litre TDI CR diesel. The petrol version allows customers to choose from either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed automatic Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission while the diesel variant is equipped with a 6-speed DSG automatic as standard.

The third generation Superb will be pitting against the likes of the Toyota Camry, but it also has the steel to take the fight to more up market sedans like the Mercedes-Benz CLA and the Audi A3. “The new Superb continues the success story of the brand’s top model range in India. This product demonstrates our aspirations in the automotive industry by offering a superlative ownership experience and a great value proposition for our customers,” Skoda Auto India CMD Sudhir Rao.
