BENGALURU: Hatchback lovers will be amused to hear that Tata has finally revealed concrete plans regarding the launch of the performance version of the Tiago. The launch of the car shall mark Tata’s venture into the performance hatchback segment. Tiago ‘Plus’, as they plan to call it, is the latest addition to their product line, which is renowned for introducing automobiles like the Zest and the Bolt. Reports suggest that Tata shall make their car available by the upcoming November, however, Tata hasn’t officially confirmed this report.

The engine for Tiago has been expected to be powered by either Bolt Sport's motor, which produces 120PS; or Tata could utilize a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder 'Revotron' petrol motor, the one they employ for the Tiago. Tata also plans to give the car a sporty body kit, comprising of side skirts and body decals. Reports have it that they might also want to revamp the cabin to make it look more amazing. For a better and smooth driving experience, Tiago Plus shall bring in features such as lowered suspensions and stiffer damping.

Tata had earlier showcased its go-fast version of the Bolt at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and this year's Delhi Auto Expo, but the company eventually dropped the production plan and introduced Tiago Plus instead. The decision might have been driven by the fact that Bolt hadn’t generated many sales, and the response for this automobile wasn’t appreciable either; based on which releasing a high performance version of the car wasn’t really feasible. On the contrary, Tiago enjoyed consistent increase in sales, for which the makers decided to continue working on its Tiago model. The average monthly sales for Tiago amount to 4,000 units at the moment. The car, with its extensive features, can end up eliminating any competition from Baleno RS and Abarth Punto. Tata also plans to launch the automated manual transmission (AMT) and crossover avatars of the same model in near future.
