1. Kopi Luwak (Coffee)

Price: Nearly 20,000 per kilogram

Kopi Luwak otherwise also known as Civet Coffee is world’s most expensive coffee. Along with being the most expensive coffee it is also the lowest produced coffee in the world. The coffee is made in a rather peculiar way. The Asian Palm Civet eats the coffee berries form its fleshy pulp. The civet is unable to digest the coffee beans so it passes through the digestive tract and ultimately defecated out by the animal. Its then that the locals collect the coffee beans and wash them thoroughly and dry them under sun. After sun drying they are lightly roasted and brewed.

This coffee is produced only on the islands of Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Sulawesi in the Indonesian Archipelago.

One can only wonder what the digestive tract of this Civet has that makes the coffee one of the most expensive coffees in the world!
