Shah Rukh Khan Gets New Set of Wheels: BMW i8


BENGALURU: Shah Rukh Khan a.k.a. King Khan showed an eco-friendly side of his persona when the Bollywood superstar purchased a brand new BMW i8 from a dealership in Gurugram (Gurgaon) as reported by Ayush Arya from Oncars. The hybrid electric sports car was delivered to the celebrity last week on Wednesday. The director of the dealership, Sharad Kachalia, from where the car was purchased, personally delivered the sports car to Shah Rukh Khan.

King Khan did not wait long before he took his new set of wheels out on the roads for a test ride, since he was seen rolling out in his new ride on the streets of Mumbai soon after he received the vehicle. The talk of the town, BMW i8 is a masterpiece that combines eco-friendly and pure muscle aspects crafted together. The car sports a 1.5 litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine which churns 231Bhp and 320Nm of peak torque. Moreover, there is an electric motor as well which generates 96Kw of power which in horsepower terms equals to 131Bhp. The BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid sports car and can run solely on batteries resulting in a zero-emission drive. The car can perform a 0-100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds and has an electrically limited top speed of 250 kmph.

The car has an almost 50:50 weight distribution at the front and back which renders into great handling. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) has been used to construct the foundation of the BMW i8. The material provides the similar strength as steel but weighs only half.

The BMW i8 has a fuel economy of 13 kmpl in Sports mode which can be efficiently advanced when driving in Comfort or Eco mode. The i8 has an all-electric range of 37 km whereas a combined driving ranges of 500 km in Comfort mode and 600 km in Eco mode. It holds a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery.

For when you feel to push the throttle and kick in some adrenaline, shift to sports mode and both, the electric motor and the gasoline engine works together to deliver power packed performance. The BMW i8 is available in India at a price of INR 2.29 Crore.
