OYO Rooms Join Hands with the Northeast Festival, 2015


NEW DELHI: OYO Rooms joined hands with the Northeast Festival, 2015, as the official travel partner. The festival, which concluded yesterday, saw the likes of Arvind Kejriwal and Smriti Irani attending it and performances by Zubeen Garg, Parikrama and Traffic Jam. The theme of the festival was Development of Tourism in the NE Region. OYO Rooms, as a brand, has always focused on solving the problems of the hospitality industry. And hence, the branded network of hotels was the key presenter at the B2B session on “Strategic Importance of India’s North East Tourism’. The session saw the secretaries of all the northeastern states; AM Singh, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDONER); Abhinav Sinha, COO of OYO Rooms and Anuj Tejpal, Chief Business Development Office, OYO Rooms, in attendance.

The session focused on finding solutions for the problems faced by tourism in the Northeast region. After the event, Abhinav Sinha said, “We are extremely proud to have partnered with the Northeast Festival. OYO Rooms kick-started operations in the Northeast with its first property in Guwahati in August. We consider the region to be of strategic importance. The region holds huge potential for tourism and we believe OYO can be highly instrumental in promoting and developing tourism there. NE also boasts of immense talent through the help of which the company plans to expand in the region."

The three-day-festival (October 16-18) which served as a window to the Northeast showcased various sides of the colourful culture of the region at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Delhi. From music, clothes and handicrafts to food and sports, the festival had various attractions in order to promote tourism. Around 60 artisans and small textile entrepreneurs from the eight states of the region displayed the NE’s characteristic craftsmanship at various stalls. The festival was attended by around three lakh people, according to the media reports.
